The company uses copper indium gallium diselenide to produce CIGS flexible solar cells, which achieve up to 21.2% efficiency in laboratory and production cells of about 17 percent average efficiency. This type of solar cell is ideal for portable power and is 1.5 to 2X greater in performance than comparable thin film flexible solar materials. GSHK Solar opened in 1994 and in 2008 finished another phase of development as it expanded its CIGS production to a new 250 MW facility in Mudu, China.
The company is opening a new division in Marrakech, Morocco Group Solar Hong Kong SARL to reach the African market and expand its product lines within the Africa region and UN’s Light Up Africa project. The project is based on a philanthropy objective with the UN to provide electricity by means of nano technology renewable energy and heating for the colder regions by carbon fiber heating system. This makes GSHK Solar the largest full-scale manufacturer of CIGS thin-film photovoltaics in the world.
